Let’s face facts: Boston is the indie music capital of the universe. Well… maybe L.A. is “ok”, in a pinch. But the reason I originally moved to Boston back in 1992 was to experience the indie music scene in person. And I did, for a time. But what can I say? Shit happens. With alarming regularity. And now I’m on the north shore, and there’s work and this triathlon of a commute, and blah blah blah.
I’ve just made a New Year’s resolution. Yeah, I know, it’s February. Get over it. I’m going to make a sincere effort to check out the wonderful bands I know are out there, slogging their way through the Boston club scene in search of an audience. And anyone reading this should too! There’s no excuse not to anymore. Don’t know what they sound like? Look them up on MySpace and have a listen; they’re bound to be there.
… and I’ll even remember to crack open that last issue of the Phoenix, rather than just collect them in the corner of my kitchen floor
Peace,
Julie
This morning, Victor Robert Venckus had a very cool interview guest on his “Expanding Awareness” show (on WZBC 90.3 FM) – energy healer, medical intuitive and therapist, Yuliya Cohen. Victor’s shows are always interesting, but sometimes his guest really has something going on, and she definitely does.
Great new CD just out from Jude Cole & Kiefer Sutherland’s label Ironworks Music – Billy Boy on Poison’s “Sweet Mess”. You can hear some of it on their MySpace page. It seriously rocks and brings to mind some of my favorites from a previous lifetime, David Bowie, Iggy Pop & T. Rex. Really cool stuff – check them out!
Actually, Billy Boy on Poison, along with fellow Ironworks artists HoneyHoney & Rocco DeLuca & The Burden, will be doing a showcase in Los Angeles at the Roxy on Feb. 7. I’m extremely bummed that I can’t go, but hey, I work for a living… what can I say?? If you can go, you really should, because I know it will be fantastic.
I think that’s about all for now. If I seem cranky, it’s because I’m 24-deprived, and it’s going to be a long, hard winter…
