The big and exciting news of this show is the first Boston appearance of The Happy Hollows. Having just been proclaimed by Radio Free Silver Lake as “the best band playing regularly in Los Angeles right now”, they’ve just released their debut album Spells, and will be performing a few shows here on the East Coast along with an appearance at CMJ.

I’m finding it difficult to describe their music, as there’s just so much going on there. For three people (Sarah Negahdari – vocals, guitar; Charles Mahoney – bass, vocals; Chris Hernandez, drums), it’s just astonishing. Crazy and experimental, but also dancy, and pretty, and very listenable, possibly bordering on addictive. I’m especially looking forward to seeing Sarah Negahdari in action, as it’s difficult to believe the same person is responsible, simultaneously, for that mind-altering guitar and otherworldly vocals that range from bits of angelic sweetness to banshee wails.

You can order a physical copy of the CD by using the nifty widget on their MySpace (where you can also hear the new tunes), or even better, come to the show and buy one there. Congratulations, guys; looking forward to seeing you soon!

Dark Martini & The Dirty Olives

Dark Martini & The Dirty Olives, a hard rocking, bluesy, rockabilly-tinged Boston band, are: Mark Dantini (aka Dark Martini) – guitar, vocals; Koopa Sawyer, drums; and Adam Cat, bass. To be honest, this is my first time hearing them, but they sound pretty good. Judging from what I’m hearing as I listen on MySpace, could be some nice guitar riffing, if you’re into that sort of thing. And who isn’t?

The Wrecking Coast

Charlestown, Mass. band The Wrecking Coast will be opening the show. Vocalist Rebecca Frank also performs with Boston pop/rock band The Modern Elite; she’s joined by Pete Ferraro (guitar), William Disanza (guitar & vocals; formerly with New Jersey-based The Laysan Rail), and Dave Conner (drums).
