<p>The Airborne Toxic Event are poised to begin their special acoustic tour with the impossibly classy <a href="http://www.myspace.com/calderquartet">Calder Quartet</a> to commemorate the release of their live DVD and documentary, <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Airborne-Toxic-Event-Wanted-Concert/dp/B003Y7DP1M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&#038;s=dvd&#038;qid=1283450694&#038;sr=8-1">&#8220;All I Ever Wanted: Live From Walt Disney Concert Hall&#8221;</a>, which follows the band as they prepare for that epic Los Angeles performance which featured &#8211; in addition to the string quartet &#8211; a children’s choir, a high school marching band, horn players, visual artists, and traditional Mexican folkórico dancers. <span id="more-5645"></span></p>
<p>For a taste of what Airborne Tox and the Calder Quartet sound like in an acoustic setting (long on the wish list of fans), here&#8217;s a blast from the past, one in their series of acoustic videos released at the time of their debut album:</p>
<p><object width="500" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/bL_NcoCJgzo?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/bL_NcoCJgzo?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="500" height="385"></embed></object></p>
<p>Amazingly, there are still tickets available for all but the Chicago show, but you&#8217;d best get on it now!</p>

TONIGHT (doors at 6:30 pm, show at 7:30 pm; all ages)</strong></p>
<p>Boston welcomes the awesome, venerable and uber-classy Iggy and The Stooges, who perform at the House of Blues on Lansdowne Street tonight. Hugely influential and responsible for raising disgruntled angst to an art form, in-your-face live performance, and the epic stage dive, I recently saw them referred to as <em>pre-</em>punk &#8211; how cool is that?</p>
<p><strong>See my Iggy and the Stooges profile on <a href="http://www.rslblog.com/2010/08/iggy-stooges.html">Ryan&#8217;s Smashing Life</a>:</strong> &#8220;It sucks to be ahead of your time&#8230; The trick is to live long enough to be fully vindicated and reap the emotional (and financial) rewards of those years of isolation, when you thrashed and screamed and spilled your guts &#8211; and waited for the world to catch up.&#8221; <a href="http://www.rslblog.com/2010/08/iggy-stooges.html">more&#8230;</a></p>
<p><em>[<strong>No blogger love?</strong> Even with my gushing and enthusiastic preview on the highly regarded and widely-read <a href="http://www.rslblog.com">RSL</a>, the House of Blues could not find it in their hearts to cough up *one ticket* so I could attend and review the show. You'd think they might be a bit more appreciative of local press coverage, seeing as how their <a href="http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2010/08/iggy_the_stooge_2.html">Atlantic City, NJ show</a> (at the 2300-capacity House of Blues) was only half full. I'll be covering it anyway, 'cause Iggy and the Stooges rock. Corporate entities = near sightedness.</em>]</p>

<p>For this edition, we&#8217;re starting the week on Sunday (today), since I forgot to mention <strong>tonight&#8217;s</strong> <a href="http://www.axe2ice.com/events.html">Bent Wit Cabaret</a> show last time. <p><a href="http://newcollisions.muxtape.com">The New Collisions</a> are cool and poppy with an 80s New Wave vibe (and they&#8217;ve even toured with <a href="http://www.blondie.net/">Blondie</a> and <a href="http://theb52s.com/">the B-52s</a>). Their debut album (due out October 5) was recorded at Boston&#8217;s legendary <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Apache_Studios">Fort Apache Studios</a> with <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sean_Slade">Sean Slade</a> and <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Q._Kolderie">Paul Kolderie</a>. <p>Fellow Bostonians <a href="http://www.sarahborges.com">Sarah Borges and The Broken Singles</a> are in the rootsy-rock/alt-country vein, with Sarah&#8217;s vocals sometimes sassy, sometimes smooth and sweet. Their third album, <em>The Stars Are Out</em>, was released last year.</p>
<h4>Club D&#8217;Elf @ the Lizard Lounge (Thursday)</h4>

<p><strong><a href="http://www.myspace.com/lipteaseme">Liptease</a> (9pm), <a href="http://www.myspace.com/genedantestarlets">Gene Dante and the Future Starlets</a> (10pm), <a href="http://www.myspace.com/sidewalkdriver">Sidewalk Driver</a> (11pm), <a href="http://www.myspace.com/planetoidmusic">Planetoid</a> (12am) @ the Church of Boston &#8211; Friday Aug. 13, doors 8pm, 21+, $10 <a href="http://www.venuevents.net/event/1096">advance tix</a>, $13 @ door.</strong></p>
<p>Here&#8217;s one for you closet glam-rockers and &#8217;80s dance party people out there. <a href="http://www.myspace.com/lipteaseme">Liptease</a>, if they were a little older, would have played at <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Studio_54">Studio 54</a>. Gene Dante of <a href="http://www.myspace.com/genedantestarlets">Gene Dante and the Future Starlets</a> is an actor as well as a songwriter and singer who has toured in productions such as &#8220;The Rocky Horror Show,&#8221; &#8220;Hedwig and the Angry Inch,&#8221; and &#8220;Beauty and the Beast.&#8221; With his theatrical musical theatre vocals, he was nominated as Best Male Vocalist in the 2009 Boston Best Music Poll, and names Bowie and Neil Diamond as influences (I&#8217;d say more Neil than Bowie in his singing style).</p>
<p><object width="425" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/vpnyBYmCu1Q&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/vpnyBYmCu1Q&amp;hl=en_US&amp;fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="385"></embed></object></p>
<p>The Boston Herald said of <a href="http://www.myspace.com/sidewalkdriver">Sidewalk Driver</a>: &#8220;think Bowie painting the Kinks&#8217; sound with sparkles&#8221;. And <a href="http://www.myspace.com/planetoidmusic">Planetoid</a> has a retro &#8217;70s metal sound with some psychedelic and grunge influences, and as New England Performer pointed out, &#8220;catch &#8216;em before their return to whatever stoner-rock planet they came from.&#8221;</p>
<h4>Goli Going East, Cabiria (CD Release), Plumerai, Molly Zenobia @ the Middle East Upstairs (Friday)</h4>
<div id="attachment_5552" class="wp-caption alignnone" style="width: 410px"><img src="http://www.bostonsurvivalguide.net/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/BBTW26_Goli-400x268.jpg" alt="the lovely ladies of Goli - photo by Karen Clunes" title="BBTW26_Goli" width="400" height="268" class="size-medium wp-image-5552" /><p class="wp-caption-text">the lovely ladies of Goli - photo by Karen Clunes</p></div>
<p><strong>Goli Going East (with members of <a href="http://www.fluttreffect.com">Fluttr Effect</a>), <a href="http://www.cabiriamusic.com/">Cabiria</a> (CD Release Party), <a href="http://www.myspace.com/plumerai">Plumerai</a> and <a href="http://www.myspace.com/mollyzenobia">Molly Zenobia</a> @ the Middle East Upstairs &#8211; Friday, Aug 13.</strong></p>
<p>This should be a <em>very</em> interesting evening of <em>mostly</em> Boston bands. Goli Going East is, I believe, Vessela Stoyanova (marimba) and Valerie Thompson (cello, vocals) of the renown <a href="http://www.myspace.com/golimusic">Goli</a> (and <a href="http://www.myspace.com/fluttreffect">Fluttr Effect</a>). <a href="http://www.cabiriamusic.com/">Cabiria</a> (from NYC &#8211; operatic vocals, trip-hop groove and Spanish Flamenco) is celebrating the release of their 6-song EP, <em>A Product of Humankind</em>. And <a href="http://www.myspace.com/mollyzenobia">Molly Zenobia</a> performs dreamlike, drifting, very experimental music &#8211; keyboards/piano and samples, with some extremely pretty vocals. Spacey, gauzy, guitar-driven <a href="http://www.myspace.com/plumerai">Plumerai</a> complete this stellar lineup.</p>
<h4>Jo-Jo&#8217;s 40th Birthday Roast @ the Middle East Downstairs (Friday)</h4>
<div id="attachment_5553" class="wp-caption alignnone" style="width: 275px"><img src="http://www.bostonsurvivalguide.net/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/JohnPowhida-325.jpg" alt="John Powhida" title="JohnPowhida-325" width="265" height="325" class="size-full wp-image-5553" /><p class="wp-caption-text">John Powhida</p></div>

<p>I&#8217;m not sure who &#8220;Jo-Jo&#8221; is, but she/he is having a cool party at the Middle East. It features the inimitable <a href="http://www.myspace.com/johnpowhidainternationalairport">John Powhida &amp; the International Airport</a> and punk rockers <a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Marvels/194388970723">The Marvels</a>. The listing says &#8220;semi-formal dress code encouraged.&#8221;</p>
<h4>Otis Grove @ the Middle East Corner &#8211; FREE! (Saturday)</h4>
<p><img src="http://www.bostonsurvivalguide.net/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/OtisGrove-400.jpg" alt="OtisGrove-400" title="OtisGrove-400" width="400" height="265" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-5554" /></p>
<p>The seriously funky <a href="http://www.myspace.com/otisgrove">Otis Grove</a> will be doing some tight jamming &#8211; and it&#8217;ll be interesting to see if they can squeeze <em>any</em> sort of organ onto the tiny stage in the Middle East Corner. A very nice cozy space, and a free show.</p>
<h4>&#8220;Budoir Noir&#8221; @ Club Passim (Saturday)</h4>
<div id="attachment_5555" class="wp-caption alignnone" style="width: 410px"><img src="http://www.bostonsurvivalguide.net/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/WhatTimeMrFox-400.jpg" alt="What Time Is It, Mr. Fox? - photo by Katrine Wheeler" title="WhatTimeMrFox-400" width="400" height="267" class="size-full wp-image-5555" /><p class="wp-caption-text">What Time Is It, Mr. Fox? - photo by Katrine Wheeler</p></div>
<p><strong><a href="http://www.myspace.com/whattimeisitmrfox">What Time Is It, Mr. Fox?</a> and <a href="http://humanwine.org/">HUMANWINE</a> @ Passim &#8211; Saturday Aug 14, 8pm, all ages.</strong></p>
<p><a href="http://www.myspace.com/whattimeisitmrfox">What Time Is It, Mr. Fox?</a> are purveyors of &#8220;macabre musical theatre&#8221; that, as Jason Roush of Bay Windows once said, &#8220;strikes the perfect balance of gloom and glam.&#8221; Powerful and expressive vocals from Brian King and music that&#8217;s folky, jazzy cabaret.</p>
<p><object width="425" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/bx4NOq5g5us&#038;color1=0xb1b1b1&#038;color2=0xd0d0d0&#038;hl=en_US&#038;feature=player_embedded&#038;fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/bx4NOq5g5us&#038;color1=0xb1b1b1&#038;color2=0xd0d0d0&#038;hl=en_US&#038;feature=player_embedded&#038;fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="425" height="385"></embed></object></p>
<p><a href="http://humanwine.org/">HUMANWINE</a> &#8211; or more accurately H.U.M.A.N.W.I.N.E. (Humans Underground Making Anagrams Nightly While Imperial Not-Mes Enslave), bring their message of social truth with gothic elegance.</p>
<p>As Brian King of <a href="http://www.myspace.com/whattimeisitmrfox">What Time Is It, Mr. Fox?</a> explains, &#8220;We have always been rabid mutual fans of each other&#8217;s music, and I think it&#8217;s because we have such complementary perspectives. It&#8217;s like in early times when the Goddess of Love was also the Goddess of War. Both issues are about relationships and social power structures, whether between a couple in the bedroom or between two countries or classes. It&#8217;s all about living together and fighting for equality. We sing about struggle and liberation.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;Feisty pranksters&#8221; <a href="http://www.slomskibrothers.com/">The Slomski Brothers</a> (from New Jersey) open the night with their wacky vaudevillian <em>schtick</em>.</p>

<p>There&#8217;s a special evening going on at Church tomorrow night &#8211; Jaggery&#8217;s CD Release Party for their new album <em>Upon A Penumbra</em>. Their music is haunting and mesmerizing, and they&#8217;ll be joined two other fascinating bands with influences ranging from Southern gospel to Middle Eastern, Native American, African and Eastern European musical traditions, making for something quite different from your usual indie rock fare. Definitely worth catching. </p>
<p><object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" width="400" height="100" ><param name="movie" value="http://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer.swf/album=784987150/size=venti/bgcol=FFFFFF/linkcol=4285BB/" /><param name="quality" value="high" /><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="never" /><param name="allowNetworking" value="always" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#FFFFFF" /><embed src="http://bandcamp.com/EmbeddedPlayer.swf/album=784987150/size=venti/bgcol=FFFFFF/linkcol=4285BB/" width="400" height="100" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" quality=high allowScriptAccess=never allowNetworking=always wmode=transparent bgcolor=#FFFFFF ></embed><noembed><a href="http://jaggery.bandcamp.com/album/upon-a-penumbra">Incestuous Tendencies by Jaggery</a></noembed></object><span id="more-5453"></span></p>
<p>I&#8217;ll make things easy for myself and quote from Jaggery&#8217;s press release:</p>
<p>&#8216;Upon A Penumbra&#8217; is Jaggery’s third recording. Mixed by Josh Hager (Devo, The Elevator Drops) and Scott Dakota (Sarah Rabdau, Walter Sickert &amp; the Army of Broken Toys), the album&#8217;s title refers to an area of part shadow, part light, sometimes seen during a lunar eclipse or on a scan of the human brain. It includes diverse songscapes ~ brooding polemics, tribal invocations, dreamlike musings, and even a track with spoken word verses and a haunting, hip-hop influenced hook. The album is a perfect illustration of the band’s paradoxical variety of styles yet overarching, self-conformist genre.</p>
<p><em>Beat Circus</em><br />
<a href="http://www.beatcircus.net/">Beat Circus</a> was formed in 2002 in Boston, Massachusetts by singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Brian Carpenter, who has been its only constant member since its inception. In 2005 Carpenter began a radical shift in direction resulting in the recording of Dreamland, the first part of Carpenter&#8217;s Weird American Gothic trilogy, with legendary NY producer Martin Bisi. In Summer 2007 Brian Carpenter debuted the third incarnation of Beat Circus with a new concept and sound to develop the second part of the trilogy, Boy From Black Mountain, personal songs about family and fatherhood in the tradition of Southern Gospel songwriters and Southern Gothic literature. Boy From Black Mountain was released in September 2009 on Cuneiform Records.</p>
<p><em>Incus, with special guest Ela Rogers</em><br />
Drawing on influences from Middle Eastern, Native American, African and Eastern European musical traditions, <a href="http://www.incus.net/<br />
">Incus</a> is redefining the American Tribal music movement. Chosen as &#8220;Band on the Verge&#8221; in Relix Magazine&#8217;s January 09 issue, Incus is a combination of glorious light and soul stirring dark. &#8220;Under the powerful vocals and drums that drive Incus&#8217;s music is a soul that is rare. If Incus is dark, then it is dark like the woods under a full moon: unexpectedly bright, full of brilliant stars, inviting, warm, natural and seductive.&#8221; &#8212; J. Bonni, The Weekly Dig.</p>

<p> There&#8217;s so much great music to check out this week, I can only touch on some of it. See listings on the sidebar for more, and please let me know if I&#8217;m missing something interesting (I frequently do). We&#8217;ve got two FREE daytime concert series in four different locations, presented by arts organizations around Cambridge. Somerville has their annual Art Beat happening Friday and Saturday in Davis Square. And there&#8217;s interesting shows (and a few new album releases) coming up with Laura Jorgensen and Nature In The City; Rob Potylo and HUMANWINE; and Sarah RabDAU and Goli. <span id="more-5312"></span> </p>

This week there&#8217;s <a href="http://www.myspace.com/jasonmylesgoss">Jason Myles Goss</a> (who&#8217;s from Brooklyn NY, so I guess it&#8217;s not just local artists) on Wednesday at Kendall, and singer-songwriter/guitarist <a href="http://www.myspace.com/jakearmerding">Jake Armerding</a> on Thursday at Harvard. For a full schedule, visit <a href="http://www.passimcenter.org/">passimcenter.org</a>.</p>

<p>The City of Somerville hosts its annual <a href="http://www.somervilleartscouncil.org/programs/artbeat/2010/schedule.html">Art Beat</a> Festival on Friday and Saturday in and around Davis Square. (from their press release): &#8220;At the height of summer, artists and festival goers converge on Davis Square, transforming it into one of the area&#8217;s largest and most innovative arts festivals. This year&#8217;s ArtBeat theme is W&nbsp;A&nbsp;T&nbsp;E&nbsp;R, which artists will explore in a variety of ways.&#8221; Somerville Arts Council has a <a href="http://www.somervilleartscouncil.org/programs/artbeat/2010/schedule.html">complete schedule</a> listed. <strong>Note! Walter Sickert and the Army of Broken Toys will be performing Friday at 6:30pm at Park Stage, Seven Hills Park (behind Somerville Theatre). He also designed their awesome poster this year (bet you would never guess that).</strong></p>
<h4>Goli | Sarah RabDAU | Nohow On</h4>
<p><em>Saturday 7/17 ~ Cafe 939 | 8pm show, $8</em></p>

<p><a href="http://www.myspace.com/golimusic">Goli</a> is the very interesting cello and marimba duo of Valerie Thompson and Vessela Stoyanova. But before you assume this is &#8220;straight classical music,&#8221; their musical backgrounds include world music, rock, folk ensembles, free improv, and yes of course, symphony orchestras. I take this from their MySpace page: &#8220;wrestling with the universal subjects of death and getting laid while playing the cello and marimba.&#8221; Oh yes, most definitely worth checking out. I&#8217;ll include a little sample below (filmed by <a href="http://www.youtube.com/user/AdrenalineSleep">AdrenalineSleep</a>). They&#8217;re joined at <a href="http://cafe939.com/">Cafe 939</a> Saturday night by pianist/vocalist <a href="http://www.myspace.com/sarahrabdau">Sarah RabDAU</a> and delightfully quirky folk trio <a href="http://www.myspace.com/nohowon">Nohow On</a> (formerly No Eye Contact).</p>

<p>Three nice shows to help everyone officially kick off their summer. First up, there&#8217;s the Narragansett Summer Concert Series <strong>TONIGHT</strong> at the <a href="http://www.hardrock.com/locations/cafes3/events.aspx?LocationID=101&#038;MIBenumID=3">Hard Rock Cafe</a>, with an evening of rootsy Americana featuring <a href="http://www.myspace.com/jrmando">Jimmy Ryan and Hayride</a>, <a href="http://www.myspace.com/sreidandtheriotact">Sam Reid &amp; the Riot Act</a> and others. Then tomorrow, an actual &#8220;Summer Kick-off Party&#8221; at <a href="http://www.ttthebears.com/">T.T. the Bear&#8217;s Place</a>, featuring <a href="http://www.myspace.com/plushgun">Plushgun</a>, <a href="http://www.myspace.com/theappreciationpost">The Appreciation Post</a>, <a href="http://www.myspace.com/viviandarkbloomband">Vivian Darkbloom</a>, and <a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/Mr-Fyner-and-the-Tech-Ed-Room/150282190329">Mr. Fyner &amp; the Tech Ed Room</a>. And straight off their East Coast tour and epic evening at the House of Blues <a href="http://www.myspace.com/evelynevelyn">Evelyn Evelyn</a> afterparty (review forthcoming), <a href="http://www.myspace.com/jaggery">Jaggery</a> will be performing on Sunday with <a href="http://www.boxfive.org">Mary Bichner/Box Five</a> and <a href="http://www.myspace.com/gingeribex">Ginger Ibex</a> at the venerable folk establishment, <a href="http://www.clubpassim.org/">Club Passim</a>. <span id="more-4976"></span></p>
<p><strong>Narragansett Summer Concert Series featuring <a href="http://www.myspace.com/jrmando">Jimmy Ryan and Hayride</a>, <a href="http://www.myspace.com/sreidandtheriotact">Sam Reid &amp; The Riot Act</a>, <a href="http://www.myspace.com/bostonboysmusic">Eric Robertson &#038; the Boston Boys</a>, <a href="http://www.myspace.com/jeffreyconley">Jeff Conley</a> &amp; hosted by Eric Royer &#8211; Thursday, June 24.</strong></p>
<div id="attachment_4983" class="wp-caption alignnone" style="width: 510px"><img src="http://www.bostonsurvivalguide.net/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/BBTW22_SamReid_Ryan-5002.jpg" alt="Sam Reid &amp; The Riot Act (photo by Amy Whitten), Jimmy Ryan" title="BBTW22_SamReid_Ryan-500" width="500" height="247" class="size-full wp-image-4983" /><p class="wp-caption-text">Sam Reid &#038; The Riot Act (photo by Amy Whitten), Jimmy Ryan</p></div>
<p>For an evening of acoustic music &#8211; bluegrass, folk, Americana &#8211; head to the Hard Rock Cafe on Thursday night. There&#8217;s Jimmy Ryan, with his mandolin and bluegrass/rock, and more mandolin and Americana with Sam Reid &amp; The Riot Act. Rootsy rock with a bit of a string-band vibe courtesy of Eric Robertson &amp; The Boston Boys. And folk music performed on homemade, antique instruments from singer-songwriter Jeff Conley.</p>
<p><strong>Summer Kick-off Party with <a href="http://www.myspace.com/plushgun">Plushgun</a>, <a href="http://www.myspace.com/theappreciationpost">Appreciation Post</a>, <a href="http://www.myspace.com/viviandarkbloomband">Vivian Darkbloom</a>, and <a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/Mr-Fyner-and-the-Tech-Ed-Room/150282190329">Mr. Fyner &amp; the Tech Ed Room</a> @ <a href="http://www.ttthebears.com/">T.T. the Bear&#8217;s Place</a> &#8211; Friday, June 25.</strong></p>
<div id="attachment_4984" class="wp-caption alignnone" style="width: 410px"><img src="http://www.bostonsurvivalguide.net/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/BBTW22_SummerKickOffTTs-400.jpg" alt="(upper left): Appreciation Post; (bottom right): Plushgun (photo by Siobhan O&#039;Brien)" title="BBTW22_SummerKickOffTTs-400" width="400" height="398" class="size-full wp-image-4984" /><p class="wp-caption-text">(upper left): Plushgun (photo by Siobhan O'Brien); (bottom right): Mr. Fyner &#038; the Tech Ed Room</p></div>
<p>Enjoy the bouncy synth-pop of Boston&#8217;s <a href="http://www.myspace.com/theappreciationpost">Appreciation Post</a> (and grab their album <em>work/sleep</em> &#8211; for free, no less &#8211; <a href="http://theappreciationpost.bandcamp.com/album/work-sleep-free">on bandcamp.com</a>. Joining them for T.T&#8217;s Summer Kick-off celebration will be the power-pop of <a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/Mr-Fyner-and-the-Tech-Ed-Room/150282190329">Mr. Fyner &amp; the Tech Ed Room</a> (you can download their <em>Make Friends With A Bear</em> EP this week, also free, and also on <a href="http://mrfynerandthetechedroom.bandcamp.com/">bandcamp</a>), and the very cool <a href="http://www.myspace.com/viviandarkbloomband">Vivian Darkbloom</a> (see a brief bit of video I shot of them below). Rounding out the evening are the New Wave synth-based sounds of <a href="http://www.myspace.com/plushgun">Plushgun</a>, who are actually from Brooklyn NY, but since they&#8217;re on a bill with Boston bands, we&#8217;ll let them sneak in.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.myspace.com/jaggery">Jaggery</a>, <a href="http://www.boxfive.org">Mary Bichner/Box Five</a> and <a href="http://www.myspace.com/gingeribex">Ginger Ibex</a> @ <a href="http://www.clubpassim.org/">Club Passim</a> &#8211; Sunday, June 27.</p>
<div id="attachment_4985" class="wp-caption alignnone" style="width: 410px"><img src="http://www.bostonsurvivalguide.net/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/BBTW22_Jaggery_Bichner-400.jpg" alt="Jaggery (photo by Noah Blumenson-Cook), Mary Bichner" title="BBTW22_Jaggery_Bichner-400" width="400" height="242" class="size-full wp-image-4985" /><p class="wp-caption-text">Jaggery (photo by Noah Blumenson-Cook), Mary Bichner</p></div>
<p>After winning over some new fans at Evelyn Evelyn&#8217;s afterparty at the House of Blues restaurant last weekend, the ultra-elegant <a href="http://www.myspace.com/jaggery">Jaggery</a> will be performing in the very nice, small room of <a href="">Passim</a> on Sunday night, along with multi-instrumentalist (piano, flute, guitar) pop songstress <a href="http://www.myspace.com/boxfivemusic">Mary Bichner</a>, and <a href="http://www.myspace.com/gingeribex">Ginger Ibex</a>. Ginger Ibex is an interesting trio &#8211; Sharon Crumrine, piano; Betty Widerski, 6-string mezzo viola; and Michael Steigman, drums. They have a dramatic sound, with classical and Middle Eastern influences, and Widerski&#8217;s background includes punk, rock and improv. They especially should be a very nice complement to Jaggery&#8217;s orchestral/gothic leanings. What&#8217;s more, Passim&#8217;s a lovely intimate venue &#8211; if you&#8217;ve never been there, definitely treat yourself. This should be a very nice musical evening.</p>
