nurture your memory.<br \/>\nIn this memory I try to hold<br \/>\nyou are young and full of vibrancy and hope<br \/>\nlike in that photograph<br \/>\nI keep on my fireplace mantle.<br \/>\nYou and dad on your wedding day,<br \/>\ncutting the cake that celebrates<br \/>\nyour first day together.<\/p>\n<p>The folded frame holds two photos.<br \/>\nIn the other, you are together still,<br \/>\nso happy, so in love, yet older.<br \/>\nBodies not as supple, bending over with the weight of the world<br \/>\nand from life&#8217;s difficult truths, discovered.<br \/>\nBut your commitment so much stronger, and so sure.<br \/>\nResilient against all odds.<\/p>\n<p>On your wedding day in 1957<br \/>\nyou didn&#8217;t know the darkness you would have to endure together,<br \/>\nas one struggled with depression<br \/>\nand both struggled with pain from the past.<br \/> <br \/>\nBut you faced it together.<br \/>\nAnd when I was born,<br \/>\nwe faced it as a family<br \/>\nand we were stronger because of it.<\/p>\n<p>We nurtured each other, through the years,<br \/>\nfeeding each other with the emotional nourishment<br \/>\nwe all needed to feel safe and satiated.<\/p>\n<p>In the early days, you cooked for the three of us, and I helped.<br \/>\nWe were well fed and taken care of.<br \/>\nBut then, sometimes, it wasn&#8217;t just about preparing satisfying meals.<br \/>\nProper nourishment became more complicated,<br \/>\nand we didn&#8217;t always know what the other needed &mdash;<br \/>\nAnd especially, what you needed, Mom.<\/p>\n<p>You, the family caretaker, needed special care<br \/>\nthat only your loving family could give.<br \/>\nDad and I, in time, learned how to nurture.<br \/>\nAfter all, we learned from the best.<\/p>\nshare this:  <a
