Alex Brown Church a.k.a. Sea Wolf<\/p><\/div>\n

Sea Wolf<\/a> was formed around 2007 by singer\/songwriter Alex Brown Church. Part of the vibrant East L.A. scene, he had previously founded the group Irving<\/a>, some of whom who would go on to become the Afternoons<\/a>. <\/p>\n

In addition to Alex Brown Church on vocals and guitar, the current lineup of Sea Wolf (at least, according to Wikipedia) is Lisa Fendelander (keyboards), Ted Liscinski (bass), Joey Ficken (drums), Nathan Anderson (guitar), and Joyce Lee (cello).<\/p>\n

Sea Wolf released an EP Get to the River Before It Runs Too Low<\/em> (2007), and two albums – Leaves in the River<\/em> (2007) and their latest, just released, White Water, White Bloom<\/a><\/em>. All three are on Dangerbird Records<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Port O’Brien<\/a><\/h4>\n

(from their official site<\/a>): “Port O\u2019Brien began early in the year 2005, as a folk-ish duo of Van Pierszalowski and Cambria Goodwin. The two penned songs while Cambria lived in the tiny Californian coastal town she shares her name with and Van lived in an apartment in Oakland… which was about the size of his name. Shortly thereafter, Cambria moved to up to the Bay Area and within the next year, the project added a rhythm section, comprised of Caleb Nichols and Joshua Barnhart.” Nice acoustic sound; pretty vocals. Their new album Threadbare<\/em> comes out October 6 here in the U.S.<\/p>\n

Sara Lov<\/a><\/h4>\n

Reading her recent L.A. Weekly interview<\/a>, one would never guess that someone with such a difficult upbringing as that of Los Angeles-based singer\/songwriter Sara Lov<\/a> could sing so sweetly. Yet, as she explains to the interviewer, “I was never that kid in all black, writing-poetry-in-the-corner girl”. Instead, she seeks to “balance darkness with hope.” I’m not all that familiar with her music, but I’ve heard her name mentioned a lot<\/em> as someone I should check out, and if this show weren’t the same night as um.. someone else I wanted to see, I surely would have. Listen to her below, and see the charming illustrations of Seonna Hong and animation work of Marco Morandi.<\/p>\n
