Craziness abounds on ‘musings’ right now, and in April I have plans to see (and cover) perhaps as many as ten shows, so I’m scaling this back a bit. This week, I’ll have a quick look at two shows happening Thursday and Friday night – from theatrical otherworldly cabaret (OwlWatcher, Jaggery, Walter Sickert And The Army Of Broken Toys, HUMANWINE); to the bluesy, rootsy, and down-to-earth (Orchestra Morphine, Treat Her Right). <\/p>\n

Thursday, March 25<\/h4>\n

OwlWatcher<\/a> (9:30pm), Jaggery<\/a> (10:15pm), Walter Sickert & the Army of Broken Toys<\/a>, and HUMANWINE<\/a> @ T.T. the Bear’s Place ($10 adv\/$12 day of\/TIX<\/a> – Thursday March 25.<\/p>\n

On Thurs. at T.T. the Bear’s Place, there’s a crazy night of music planned to celebrate the opening of the Boston Underground Film Festival<\/a>, featuring OwlWatcher<\/a> (fans of King Crimson and prog rock, get there early), Jaggery<\/a> (gothic, orchestral, sweeping, and majestic w\/beautiful vocals from Mali), Walter Sickert And The Army Of Broken Toys<\/a> (fellini-esque burlesque, musical cabaret smorgasbord, and 9-ring circus), and HUMANWINE<\/a> (exquisite goth-folk, stabbing social commentary, and Holly’s astonishing vocals). This is a “must go to” event if you’ve never seen these bands before. And even if you have. By the way, the theme of the evening is “Tokyo Steampunk”. As if one even needs<\/em> a theme like that for a night like this. I hate that I can’t go to this. See it for me, ok?<\/p>\n

Orchestra Morphine and Treat Her Right<\/p><\/div>\n

On Friday night, Orchestra Morphine<\/a> will be joined by Treat Her Right<\/a>, which is certain to be a wonderful evening in honor of the fondly remembered and sweetly missed Mr. Mark Sandman<\/a>. From Hi-N-Dry<\/a>‘s site: “Orchestra Morphine is a living celebration of the music of Mark Sandman and Morphine, played with heart and commitment by a big band of Mark’s friends. The group includes his Morphine bandmates Dana Colley, Billy Conway and Jerome Deupree, Either\/Orchestra leader Russ Gershon, Club d’Elf bassist Mike Rivard, horn player Tom Halter, keyboardist Evan Harriman and vocalists Christian McNeill and Laurie Sargent.” Treat Her Right<\/a> is the band Mark performed with in the 1980s, who then regrouped mid-90s. They’re now performing again (often at Toad<\/a>) as original members Jim Fitting and David Champagne – with Tim Gearan<\/a>, Billy Beard<\/a>, and Steve Mayone<\/a>. A fun mix of blues, punk, and time-honored garage.
