Welcome to the one-minute edition of Boston Bands this week. Coming up, well, right now<\/em><\/strong>, at the Lizard Lounge is “Boston-based siren rock\/torture chamber pop ensemble” Jaggery<\/a>. Tomorrow (Thursday) begins the ThirdThursdays @ The Rosebud<\/em> concert series, with Jeddo Stars<\/a> (with former members of The Charms<\/a>) and Seven Shades of Grey<\/a>. And Saturday night at the Middle East Upstairs is HUMANWINE, Mighty Tiny, Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling, and Dave Magario. It’s being billed as “an amazingly eclectic night of off-kilter rock \u2018n\u2019 roll.” Oh yes indeed. <\/p>\n

Wednesday, May 19, 2010 (TONIGHT)<\/strong<\/p>\n

Jaggery<\/a> with Adrienne Anemone<\/a> and Box Five<\/a> @ The Lizard Lounge<\/a> | 8:30 doors \/ 9pm music starts<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jaggery is at Lizard Lounge tonight. They’re releasing a 2-song CD with a preview track from their forthcoming album Upon a Penumbra<\/em> (scheduled for release in August), and another track from an EP to be released fall\/winter 2010. Jaggery features vocalist and pianist Mali Sastri, who also graces the stage with Walter Sickert and the Army of Broken Toys<\/a>.<\/p>\n

[from their press release]<\/em>: “The 2-song disc will be free with purchase of any other Jaggery merchandise, and in conjunction the band will unveil the fruits of their current collaboration with clothes designer The Glorious Matorious of Matorious Designs (http:\/\/matoriousdesigns.com\/). Expect something beyond your basic band T-shirt.”<\/p>\n

“The night will open with Adrienne Anemone<\/a> (NYC), formerly of The Tuna Helpers (Austin\/Mimicry Records), who effortlessly blends folk\/opera\/story-telling and performance art with her lush, sparkling melodies and her Kate Bush-meets-Cruella DeVille vocal style. Accompanied by Valerie Kuehne on cello.”<\/p>\n

“Also on the bill are Boston\/Philly-based Box Five<\/a>. Fronted by the pitch-perfect polymodal synesthete Mary Bichner, Box Five create classically-infused timeless pop gems. This show the band will feature a string quartet.”<\/p>\n

ThirdThursdays @ the Rosebud: Jeddo Stars<\/a> (with former members of The Charms<\/a>) and Seven Shades of Grey<\/a> @ the Rosebud Bar & Grille<\/a> in Davis Square, Somerville | 9pm start, $5 cover, 21+<\/strong><\/p>\n

Thursday (tomorrow), the esteemed Rosebud Diner<\/a> will be serving up more than all day breakfasts and fish & chips. It’s the first evening of a new weekly music series called ThirdThursdays @ The Rosebud<\/a><\/em>, in their back room (a.k.a. the Rosebud Bar & Grille<\/a>). This series is being presented by the founder and organizer of the New England Pop Music Festival<\/a>. This week they welcome Jeddo Stars<\/a> (with former members of The Charms<\/a>) and Seven Shades of Grey<\/a>. You want laid back and low-key? This is really<\/em> laid back and low-key. Have a beer, a burger, and some tasty music. Future weeks will feature The Trick Wallace Trio<\/a> and Carlene Barous Band; Asa Brebner<\/a> & Friends and Ray Mason Band<\/a>; and The Vivs<\/a> and Goli<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Cool line up! Rushing as always to get the rest of this up, so I’ll lazily refer you to previous reviews I’ve done of HUMANWINE and Mighty Tiny<\/a> and D.N.F.M.O.M.D.<\/a>. All are wonderful and really, really<\/em> worth seeing. Rounding out the bill is singer-songwriter Dave Magario<\/a> who is also a multi-instrumentalist (guitar, keyboard, trumpet, accordion) and who also seems like a great musician, based on a first very quick listen. If you’ve never seen any of these folks before, it’ll definitely be a special and wildly eclectic evening. By the way, D.N.F.M.O.M.D. has had some decent press recently -in The Boston Phoenix<\/a> and The Boston Globe<\/a>.
