Something a bit different for me. To be honest, I’m not a huge funk or hip-hop fan (and these guys are rather surprisingly both), but I’ll make an exception for a band this good. Somerville based trio Billy Wine refer to themselves as “funk hip hop/instrumental” – sometimes they just jam out on their own, and other times they’re joined by a rapper. Check out one of their instrumentals. And if you like what you hear, keep an eye out on their sites for upcoming shows.
Walter Sickert and the Army of Broken Toys treated a wildly diverse crowd at Somerville’s ArtBeat Festival last Friday to a humorous and sly “PG version” of their bawdy cabaret. As little kids danced in front and blew bubbles, they performed Tipper Gore-approved classics such as “Hole In The Boat,” Johnny Cash’s “Sam Hall,” “Sea Song (Mare Carmen),” “Planet Killer,” and their pop hit from the ’80s, “Ghostbusters.”share this:
